What photos miss

A photo is not your order

This is the most important habit in reading quality-check photos: a photo is evidence about an item, not a promise about your item. Most of the frustration people report comes from collapsing that distinction.

The same link is not the same unit

• Batches change. A listing that's been up for months has been fulfilled from stock that shifted over time. A photo taken then may not represent what ships now.
• Variants change. The photo may show one colourway or size while you order another. Detail that's true for one variant isn't automatically true for yours.
• The unit is specific. A quality-check photo is of one physical piece that someone inspected once. Yours is a different piece.

What's usually missing from the frame

• Who took it and when. A photo rarely comes with a reliable, verifiable timestamp or author. Don't infer a date, a seller or a warehouse from a filename or a style of picture.
• Scale. Without a tape measure in shot, a photo can't confirm a measurement. If size is your real question, that's a request to make — not something to estimate from pixels.
• Everything outside the crop. The parts not photographed are simply unknown, not "fine".

What a quality-check photo can never confirm

However good the set, reading photos cannot establish any of these:

• That the item is authentic. Looking at a photo is not an authentication, and no link "proves" who made or shot the item.
• The exact materials or fibre content.
• How the piece will wear, wash or last.
• That it will fit you.
• Electrical, chemical or other safety.
• That it is still in stock, or that it will clear customs, or when it will arrive.
